Provided by YP.comWe asked JMI to install 750 sq ft of tile in our home. It was being remodeled due to a flood. We went ahead and removed all the cabinets, which left an open floor for the kitchen and guest bathroom. It was a smooth process up until the point of the install. The first installer laid 750sq ft of 18" porcelain tile in a day and a half with minimal prep work, crooked cuts, chipped tiles, uneven tile cuts along the walls, thresholds and bathtub, wild variations in grout lines, minimal thin set coverage on the tile, which led to hollow tiles all over the place. It was an open floor with no cabinets, so he would've had ample room to chalk lines. They ended up replacing so many of his installed tiles (probably 100+ tiles) that we now have mismatched tile(additional tile must have come from a different lot). The second installer was ok, but he wasn't very respectful of the surroundings in the home(e.g. bathroom). He used a grinder(with no vacuum) to remove the old tile and he damaged/cut into my threshold to the french doors with the grinder(we noticed after we painted and removed the tape). Before the third installer came out we were told that this happens "once every five years," which is very reassuring. The third installer scratched the tub in my guest bathroom removing/installing a replacement tile. I will give credit to the owner Jason, as he was very professional and was willing to try and make the situation better(they did knock off about 15% percent of the bill). He was out of the state working on another job, unfortunately we were not able to work with him directly after the first installer. This review is not meant to hurt JMI, this was just my experience with them. I would tell you to still consider JMI because they've done good work(that's why i went with them, it's just that i was a "one in five" customer). Just make sure you're very selective of who the installer will be for your job. Go to the site where that person has installed and if possible speak with the owner and see how they felt the job went. We got stuck with an installer who "did not want to lay tile anymore," so you're going to want to avoid that by speaking with the installer and see if they care about their work. Also, make sure you document everything before, during and after the installation. Take a lot of pictures. Note certain statements made by the installer and the JMI rep.
