SavATree was founded by Ralph Robbins in 1978 with a single objective in mind; to save trees from the devastating effects of repeated defoliations by the Gypsy Moth Caterpillar (Lymantria dispar). While this moth was accidentally introduced into the United States by French entomologist Leopold Trouvelot in 1868, it was not until the late 1970's that the population exploded in the Northeast. Ralph, a graduate of Paul Smith's college and entrepreneur at heart, saw an opportunity to make a difference in support of tree preservation and care.

After reading about the incursion of the Emerald Ash Borer I contacted Savatree of Basking Ridge in the summer of 2017 (had used them twice before for tree pruning work). They agree to send out an arborist to inspect the trees and offer protection for my nine ash trees. Tiffany, their arborist, said two of the trees were already dying and should be removed (I had them cut down later in 2017). But the other 7 looked OK and if inoculated by Savatree (now and every 2-to-3 years) would be protected from the borer. I authorized them to do so, paid $1650 and their inoculator came out and injected the trees in September.

This spring I noticed several of the trees were losing their crown leaves and bark. So I asked a First Energy arborist (was in the area trimming trees) about the condition of the ash trees. He said four of the trees looked pretty bad and appeared infected by the borer. So I called Savatree and they sent out Kim to evaluate. She told me right off that two of the inoculated trees are infected and quite possibly the others. When I asked her about the guarantee, she said they could have been infected before the inoculation program was begun. And I reminded her I had paid for all seven trees based on the expertise of their arborist (Brittany in 2017). And I told her I was owed a refund on the original service as it was ineffective or was sold under questionable circumstances. She said she would get back to me with their offer. This was on Monday June 25th, 2018 and I have not heard from Savatree.

Buyer Beware: I hired Save A Tree to remove several trees around my property. They couldn't have done a more sloppy job and they destroyed half my lawn. I have contacted them several times to no avail. I will have to resort to other means to be compensated for the damages to my property. As soon as I asked for a make good and sent in photos of the damage, I did not hear from them again. Avoid this company.
