I've been a regular at the Perkins location of Southside Produce since it started in the early '90s. However, I'm going to follow the "three times" rule and take my business elsewhere. I've noticed that the current manager/owner has been pointlessly abrasive, to some customers and his own staff. There are other open air markets in BR, and that's where I've decided to go from now on.

Southside Produce does indeed have good produce at a good price.

However, I refuse to shop there because of the multiple signs at the register reading: We Do Not Accept Louisiana Purchase



I do not use Louisiana Purchase, but for the grace of God, don't need it at this time in my life.

But when I was a small girl here in Baton Rouge, my single mother did need food stamps to feed us. She worked hard to better herself, and eventually removed us from the program.

Each time I shop at Southside I'm reminded that my mother and her three children would have been turned away by the owners.

This is an elitist decision on the part of the family who runs this business.

What reason could they possibly have to put these signs up? Discrimination? Humiliation?

When I asked at the check out, the cashier said, "Because the family doesn't want to allow the card."

I'll not shop there again until everyone is welcome.

Great fresh fruit unlike other places. It has the cleanest I repeat cleanest facilities you could imagine. The service was the finest,and the fruit was amazingly fresh it tasted like it was freshy picked ! I'm not sure were zpine was but defiantly not here because this place is nothing like he describes. I go weekly the service is great and a delicious assortment of frozen fruits and also they even have seasoning and a assortment of that type of stuff a must see and shop place!!!!

I have had a pretty good experience here. They carry a variety of veggies and fruits at a resonable price. The staff is nice, and they are convenient for me.
