I've played here many times, because it is close to my house and because I used to play in the Cleveland Clinic golf league. It also used to be cheap, but no longer. This course is an embarrassment to the City of Cleveland, which owns and operates it. It's the closest public course to the Cleveland Clinic, so their men's golf league plays there after work. They have a league rule that says you can move your ball 6" in any direction, because of the awful fairways. I once hit a fine drive right down the middle of the fairway, but then could not find my ball. A playing partner walked back 30 yards and found it in the middle of an 8" tire rut filled with muddy water. I've hit out of bunkers that had so little sand in them that my club hit hard dirt. I putted on a green that was rolled dirt. I've also found the clerks who take the money (This is not a pro shop.) to be cold as ice. This is why many people like me drive many miles to play golf elsewhere. If Highland was properly run, it would attract many of us who live close. Instead we have 18 + 9 +9 holes of shame--and about one-half mile from one of the best courses in America, Canterbury.
