We use a needs-based approach to managing client assets. There are three different approaches we take based on three different client needs:
Growth of Capital/Focus Investing: Many high net worth clients and clients not near retirement desire growth of capital and are willing to tolerate volatility in ...More
their holdings. We allocate client assets into a concentrated portfolio of undervalued long-term investments, which includes stocks, preferred stocks, REITs, and high-yield corporate bonds. A lot of our research is devoted to finding rare opportunities to purchase shares of significantly undervalued micro-cap and small-cap securities. We may allocate a significant portion of client assets into these rare opportunities that we believe are low-risk/high reward. We also occasionally invest client assets in short-term special situation opportunities in arbitrage, spin-offs, and Initial Public Offerings (IPOs).
Approaching Retirement: Clients approaching retirement typically want growth of capital and are less tolerant of volatility. We allocate these client assets into a well-diversified portfolio of undervalued long-term investments which includes stocks, preferred stocks, REITs, and corporate bonds.
Currently in Retirement: Clients in retirement typically desire income and preservation of capital. We allocate these client assets into a diversified portfolio of stocks with high dividend yields, preferred stocks, REITs, corporate bonds, and municipal bonds. What makes us different is that we don't invest into mutual funds and we give more personal service than larger institutions.
Our goal is first to understand clients and their needs so we can find suitable investments. Our second goal is to over-perform. We are always mindful of what 17th Century philosopher Baltasar Gracian said: "Mediocrity never wins applause."
