My mother was put in here by her doctor after abdominal surgery. She was elderly and had some osteoporosis, as many postmenopausal women do. In general the care was adequate but an aide tried to put her into a wheelchair one time but did not lock the brakes. The chair rolled away and my Mom fell on her butt and fractured a couple of vertebrae (hairline fractures that healed themselves but still she should have had to go through that.

The "aide" was a small, SE Asian woman (as many of them are) and could not hold her up. She did try and probably softened the blow because of it. I look on problems such as these however as systemic. Was the home, in search of better profits, cutting down the ratio of aides to patience (causing them to rush) or were they not training them well enough. I suppose no one will ever know the answer to these questions but they seem to me to come from the top down.
