Northwoods Coalition for Family Safety has been providing safety and empowerment in the Bemidji community since 1978. Starting as Northwoods Coalition for Battered Women, it seemed appropriate an organization name change to reflect the desire for all victims of domestic abuse to feel welcome, while still honoring the truth that woman battering continues to plague society. Emergency Hot Line- Since its inception the organization has provided a means of safety while striving to advocate on behalf of battered women and their children. NCFS also offers many services to meet the needs of male victims of abuse. Emergency shelter is available and staff is trained to assist victims in accessing a range of services including: - Legal Advocacy - Criminal Justice intervention - Housing referrals - Child-care - Accompaniment to court and other appointments - Support groups for adults and children.
