I’ve never had a more painful experience than I had with Dr Mahdi Selek. I went there because I have Medi-Cal and was being seen for a cracked molar. I should’ve known something was off when he didn’t even give me a local anesthetic before injecting Novocain in the back of my cheek. It felt like an electric shock then he didn’t even wait five minutes for the medicine to work I had to ask for time. He kept pushing my tongue back so far I couldn’t even breathe during the drilling procedure. He told me my tooth would be sore for two days after two weeks I was still unable to chew on my tooth. I went back to my scheduled appointment for my crown fitting and he actually had to use Novocain again ( which was extremely painful) to be able to even put my crown on my tooth because it feels like there’s a nerve exposed. I asked for a root canal but he insists that I do not need one. A week later from this crown or ordeal three weeks from the initial visit I am left in more pain than I have ever had. I have not been able to chew on the left side of my mouth since my initial visit. I actually drove home crying in tears from the pain of the crown fitting. And even though I’m a medical patient I had to come out of my pocket about $1300 to be worse off and left in pain. I’ve never had a fear of a dentist but I am having way too much anxiety to have him work on my tooth again. Don’t confuse his friendliness for professionalism. He is not gentle with your mouth and teeth and doesn’t do a thorough job.

I don't recommend Dr. Salek, here are some reasons why:

1. Every time I visited him, he made me wait 30 - 50 minutes after our scheduled appointment time.

2. While I waited for a permanent crown, I had a temporary crown put in. The temporary one lasted for an hour before it fell off and so I had to go back in. This happened six times. Each of those times I had to go back to put it in again. In the end, he accused me and told me that it was my fault.

3. He once cancelled my appointment 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment while I was on my way from San Francisco to his office in Benicia.

4. After he put the permanent crown, I told him that I wasn't comfortable with it and couldn't chew with it. I also noticed that it started to smell bad. He told me that there was nothing wrong with it and if any other dentist told me that something was wrong with it, he would give me a full refund. So after that, I decided to get two other dentists' opinion and they both said that there was a gap that facilitated the accumulation of food and bacteria, which ultimately caused the foul smell. When I told Dr. Salek, he refused to acknowledge it and did not give me a refund. He said that in order to fix it, he'd have to charge me additionally. So I had to pay $900 to another dentist to fix it for me.

I don't trust this dentist, he's very unprofessional and a liar. Save yourself from the hassle and avoid at all costs.
