Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, located in Bentonville, Ark., caters to students from kindergarten through fourth grade, with an average enrollment of more than 600 students. There are more than 40 certified teachers, many holding postgraduate degrees. In order to support its teachers, Thomas Jefferson has a reading recovery team, title I teachers, shared teaching program and a school-based tutoring outreach program. Thomas Jefferson Elementary School was one of two Arkansas schools accepted into the Great Expectations of Arkansas Program in 2003. This program is a school wide support program for curriculum and character education. In addition to classroom curriculum, Thomas Jefferson students participate weekly in a range of activities that include art, music, physical education, library and computers. Each day, children spend more than 50 minutes in these classes to compliment their classroom curriculum.
