Established in 1948, the Bettendorf Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that preserves peace and safety, enforces laws and ordinances and safeguards constitutional rights. It maintains a support service division that encompasses record, identification, investigation, data entry, evidence, community service and school resource sections. The Bettendorf Police Department also operates a field service division that is comprised of patrol, communication, traffic, training and crossing guards units. The department has a citizens police academy that provides training programs related to laws, firearms instruction, defensive tactics, first aid, patrol procedures and investigations. It supports the Explorer Program, which is a worksite-based program for young men and women from ages 14 to 20 that helps to create an interest in law enforcement as a career.
