The Big Bear Municipal Water District, started by the residents of Big Bear Lake, Calif. in 1969, is an independent special district of the state of California responsible for the management of Big Bear Lake. The district s services include stabilization of the level of Big Bear Lake by managing the amount of water released to the downstream water rights holder, watershed and water quality management, recreation management, wildlife habitat preservation and enhancement and bear valley dam and reservoir maintenance.
