MECOSTA COUNTY The Legislative Act establishing the new county of Mecosta was passed February 11, 1959. The county seat was by the same authority fixed at the village of Leonard, whose name was changed in November following to Big Rapids. Mecosta County has been a separate judicial district since 1873. The first election for county officials was held on the first Monday in April 1859. One month later, the first meeting was held of the County Board of Supervisors, with only two organized townships in the county, Green and Leonard. The first child born in Mecosta County was Alice Brockway, born February 12, 1853 at where, what is now known as the village of Paris. The first village recorded in Mecosta County was Big Rapids, recorded in November 3, 1859 (first known as Glen Elm, then Leonard, and later as Big Rapids). The first pioneer railroad in Mecosta County was the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. The latter part of May in 1870, they began to lay iron from Morl ey to Big Rapids at the rate of one mile a day in pleasant weather and completed to the site of the depot in Big Rapids on Monday, June 20, 1870. The Big Rapids Pioneer was the pioneer newspaper of this part of the state, the first number being issued April 17, 1862. As early as 1862, the question was raised for the need of a county jail. In 1968, a proposition to this effect was submitted to the voters and carried by a strong majority.

This Business came to the home I was renting and cleared all my belongings out while I was gone for a week visiting family! I came home to the first eviction notice and NONE OF my things and the door locks were changed. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

DO NOT do business with this company! Better to live in your car than to deal with this unethical slumlord. I was unfortunate enough to rent from Silvernail Realty years ago, and it's sad that even though they're clearly just as bad now as they were back then, they're still in business. I rented a horrible apartment from them and by the end of the ordeal I was out thousands of dollars and several irreplaceable possessions.

When the sewer line backed up into the bathroom, Sue claimed that it was somehow our fault and charged me for the repairs - after we had to use a bathroom with raw sewage coming up both toilet and shower for over a month, WHILE I was pregnant. When her repair guys "fixed" the shower in the unit next door, they neglected to hook the water pipes back up and let water flow directly into the dirt floor basement (the door to which was in my apartment). This led to an absolutely horrible centipede infestation. And did I mention the bats? Sue made rude, unprofessional comments about my living circumstances (at the time I was living with my son, my fiance, and a male roommate), and ultimately took me to court (and somehow won!) for the security deposit plus a bunch of repairs she claimed I was at fault for. My credit was ruined for YEARS because I couldn't afford to pay the judgment.

Not only that, but several days BEFORE the lease was up, she sent her workers in to clear out the apartment (we'd already started moving into a new place and were no longer living there, but still had quite a few belongings we hadn't moved yet). They wiped out over $200 worth of groceries from the fridge and freezer and "removed" numerous other possessions, including (but not limited to) a teddy bear I'd had since I was a baby, a wedding band, the roommate's French Horn, and so much more. When confronted with the still-valid lease, Sue said that all her other leases were up earlier in the month so she'd assumed mine was too - no apology, no compensation for my missing possessions. She said it was all in bags on the curb, but we'd already searched the bags and many, MANY of our possessions were missing, and we never recovered them.

Sue Glatz is a HORRIBLE person and landlord, and her business should have been shut down YEARS ago. I wish someone would start up a class action lawsuit against her/her company, because what she's doing to people who can't afford to fight her is just plain WRONG. It's too late for me (I'm sure the statute of limitations has run out), but she's obviously still taking advantage of people and ruining lives in the name of the almighty dollar.
