Provided by YPmobileThe other two reviews are very hard for me to believe. My husband and I have chartered 5 trips with John and have ALWAYS caught fish! When we are looking to book a trip we simply text john and tell him we are ready... He replies back with what fish he's been catching, how far out, what the weather will be like, what we should anticipate to catch. I 100% would never ever go with another charter service; ever.

Provided by YP.comCaptain John may know how to fish but he definitely does not know how to be a successful/reputable guide. Our experience was very similar to Karen's. We had to use our time to go get the ice/bait we were to fish with-45 min to an hour-instead of it already being on the boat and ready to go. When we booked, we told him we were looking for large fish, this was a once in a lifetime trip for us, we saved for 6 months to take this fishing trip, and we chartered an 8-hour deep sea trip, not an off-shore trip. He said we would go out to the oil rigs where the big fish were - about 3 to 4 miles. We went out a couple of miles and he said to anchor. ANCHOR? we're supposed to be out in the ocean; he said there was a sand bar right there and he had caught several sharks just within the past week at this same spot. He caught a good sized shark within the first hour and asked me if I wanted to reel it in, there was no belt or anything else to assist. He said to follow the fish around the boat, which I did, but it went under the boat a couple of times; he kept repeating to me to hang onto the pole-not to drop it. Finally the fish went under the boat and the line broke. His nephew was his crew. At about 10:00 to 10:30 his nephew was on the phone with a friend and told the friend they would be back in by 2:00 and would meet him at the dock and then go out for some more fishing. We had an 8 hour trip scheduled and he is already saying we will be back in by less than 6 hours. At about 3 or 4 hours I asked where I could use the bathroom-oops he forgot to put the port-a-potty in so he dumped something out of a 5-gallon bucket and handed it to me.
We caught 3 more baby shark in the next hour or two, got one into the boat, took a single picture of it and he threw it back. With the third baby shark he just snapped the line because it was too small. His nephew had a pole he kept casting out and reeling in trying to catch kobia. My husband and I sat there and watched him. Capt. John finally asked if we wanted to try that, I said I was sure my husband would rather do that than just sit there and watch the water waves, so he gave him the pole. We then sat there for a couple more hours with him exclaiming that he couldn't believe it, the fishing was so good last week. I asked about going out to the oil rigs where we were supposed to go to begin with. He said that was not an option now, it was too late, so at 12:30 did we just want to go back in and call it a day at 6 hours, for $800 and nothing to show for it! My husband and I are in our 60's and this is the most disappointing/expensive memory we have.

Provided by YP.comFind yourself someone more experienced, waste of time and money!!! We meet at 6:00a.m. like we were told, then we have to use our time for him to go get the ice/bait we are going to fish with. He had a guy on the boat open a hatch to take out a belt to reel a fish in and did NOT say anything to my daughter the hatch was open, he told her to follow the fish all around the boat so she is watching the fish and her line and falls into the hatch hurting her leg and elbow, of course she drops the pole and loses her fish he cusses, rants and raves for 30 mins or so.. After me and my husband catch a shark (20 mins after this) He keeps asking us if we are ready to go back in well we paid for 6 hours and we had only been out there 2 -21/2 hours or so, of course we were not ready to go back in... After that he takes us into of the middle of the water and lets us float there until our time was up, and keep asking us where do we want to fish... well duh!!!... that's what we paid him for. Will NOT ever use this charter again.
