Provided by YPmobileMy wife and I recently adopted a dog from this shelter and the experience was great! I've been to other shelters where their priorities aren't giving the dogs homes but this shelter was very happy to see a dog go home with us. The staff was great and even stared to tear up with excitement when we decided to adopt one of their dogs. The experience here was great! I strongly recommend this shelter! This shelter genuinely cares about giving animals a better life. I will definitely be supporting this shelter.

Provided by YP.comWe stopped at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County looking fo another cat that wouold fit in with our two. The shelter is one of the best I have ever been in. The lobby is bright and clean with a small area selling animal items and a great mural of The Rainbow Bridge that is used to raise funds for the shelter.
The staff working in the kennels and cat room were very friendly and must clean constantly because everything was clean with no normal kennel smell. It seemed well lite and ventilated and every kennel either had a raised bed or a blanket for the dogs. many cats were in group areas so they could be socal with ther cats and each of these areas had access to an outside cat lounge area.
We adopted a great little almost one year old female who is now part of our family.
Before leaving we took a walk araound the outside of the shelter and noted a walking trail that went into the woods, a large barn and barnyard and well maintained and manacured grounds. We also learned that they are the only shelter in the county that takes in and picks up stays and handles between 11,000 and 12, 000 animals every year. I can't undertand how they can do that with no help from the other shelter in Reading.

Provided by YP.comThe people and staff at this shelter are veru helpful and go out of thier way to help you fins and animal that suits your living conditions and explain the pro and cons of any animals you may be interested in.
The shelter has always been clean and has been upgraded in the past few years. I have also read where this shelter has stepped up and filled in the gaps in service to animals left by the withdrawal of the Berks County Humane Society from animal control in the area.
The Reading, PA area, and all of Berks County are very lucky to have such an organization working to help animals in the area.
