Dealing with the Birmingham Water Works is horrible. I paid my bill on-line and must have entered the information incorrectly. Fortunately, I looked and discovered that my payment did not go through. So, I paid by credit card with a $1.95 service, but I paid my bill on-time, Today, I received an incredibly, nasty, threatening letter about paying a fine, having my water reconnected, and the balance on my bill. Saying I had to come down in person in order to pay my bill. I understand it's my mistake. I will be able to pay the 35$ fine, but what about people who can not pay these fines? This is unacceptable to treat your customers this way. I feel bad for people less fortunate than me, who would have to take off a day's work and pay over 90$ in fines for a simple mistake. You have a monopoly over the people of Birmingham and should be a little more forgiving. No wonder poor people can never get out of debt. It's companies like yours that perpetuate this.
