So this used to be the most awesome restaurant... it was yummy, the service was great, and the prices were reasonable. We just got back from going to dinner. There were 9 of us. 5 kids and 4 adults... our total came to over 100! we got 5 kids meals and we got 3 adult meals. they charged us for every little thing... like changing a side, splitting a meal, the children got half a hot dog on their kids meals not a full one, and the woman you helped us forgot our orders non stop. to top it off, we were charged a 20% gratituity (i can understand 15 or 18, but 20!?) even though we were all on seperate checks... so each one of us had to be charged... REALLY! I DO NOT SUGGEST GOING HERE ANYMORE! EVER SINCE THE MANAGEMENT CHANGED IT HAS GONE DOWN HILL. YOU WILL SPEND WAY TOO MUCH MONEY!

Excellent authentic deli. Real...

Excellent authentic deli. Really enjoyed the complementary assorted pickles to start the meal. Service was very friendly. Nice outdoor seating. Food was great. Will definitely eat here again.

We were treated to the best burgers in Birmingham. The serving staff made us feel absolutely indulged. We'll be frequent repeat diners at Max's. I can't wait to try some of their other dishes.

I have NEVER had such horrible...

I have NEVER had such horrible service and been treated as bad as I was today. When you place silverware in a to go container ( we had one container to many) to keep it from blowing off of our outside table, we were walking AWAY and the owner yells at you " Were you trying to steal my silverware?" ABSOLUTELY UNFORGIVABLE. I have never been treated so poorly and will NEVER return again. It is sad because I have eaten there for over 5 years and not only will they lose my business but my entire office of over 200. The e-mail has already been sent. Stay away from this restaurant and for goodness sake's if you DO go do NOT take a coupon. That is just way to confusing for them to deal with!

If you're not going to honor y...

If you're not going to honor your own coupons, and hassle guests when they try to use them, just stop making coupons.



Your customer service (both wait staff & management) is terrible.



We won't be back there again, and will highly discourage others to do the same.

ok let me first start by saying that I have never been treated more poorly by anyone than by how one of the owners treated me today. The owners, managers, and waitresses at this place of business may know food but they know nothing of customer service. For starters I wound up paying around 36.00 for lunch because my card was charged multiple times for others lunch. I had to physically go into the rest. ( we were sitting outside ) to get the waitress to place our order. To top it all off when the mgr. / owner comes to try to " fix" the mess the waitress has caused he is arguing with us and being EXTREMELY rude. We finally say just forget it we will never be back. WAIT WAIT WAIT it gets better again we are sitting outside and the waitress had brought a to go box that we did not need it was windy so I stuck clean silverware into the clean and empty to go box so it would not blow off the table and as my party was walking off the owner actually asked me if I was trying to STEAL?!?!?!?! his silverware?!?!?!?!? PLEASE advise do not get sucked into the coupons and the oh its good food with this place. The coupons really only save you a dollar or two since you are charged 5 dollars for 2 drinks and I PROMISE you the food is not worth how you will be treated with the poor customer service and HEAVEN forbid you ever have to speak with the owner because he may accuse you a customer of his of being a thief!!! please please please be AWARE!!!

Although, I do enjoy the food at Max's I will not be eating there again. The server dissappeared for 20 minutes before taking our order and then completely messed up our bills (we were using coupons and this totally confused her.) When we tried to address this with the owner, Steve, he would not listen, but kept interrupting when we tried to explain our concerns. When I stated that I did not want to argue, he said he was not arguing when clearly he was. Very poor customer service. If you choose to go, I would recommend skipping the coupons and plan to spend a while there.

Excellent food-Poor Customer Service

Max's hands down has the most authentic deli food in the Birmingham area. I have yet to have any meal from there that I did not enjoy. It is unfortuante that I will never return to Max's do to poor customer service from the Owner/Manager himself. I card that the manager himself gave me that gave you a free 7th meal after getting 6 punches. Well on on visit I forgot my card so the owner gave me new card and assured me that I could combine with my existing card on my next visit to get my free meal. Well when I return to redeem the puched card for my free meal the young lady at the register declined to to except both cards combine. When explained to her the situation above she went to the manager to relay he looked at me turn his head and told her to tell me I could not combine the cards. I left. I then called to speak to the manager and he told me that they were having so many problems with cards that the stopped honoring them. What I found strange was that no one had told me that the 4 day prior to me coming in, when the punched my card. So I can put up with a lot but I can not tolerate when people are dishonest and break their word. Especially the OWNER!!!

The first time I visited Max's deli I had to wait over an hour for a hamburger. So my thoughts were the food was so awesome we will give it a second try.. The second go around I ordered the same thing and they lost our ticket. After 40 minutes of waiting our waitress finially came over to tell us what had happened. The owner came over and apologized for the mishap and gave us the food for free and even gave a $25.00 gift card.. So once again we gave it a third try. This time we only ordered soup and a sandwich. My sandwich came out first , 45 min later, and my friends soup about 5 minutes after mine... The waitress never came back to refill our drinks or to pick up our ticket. I had to track down the hostess to give her our gift card and ticket. We left about $10.00 on the gift card because we will not go back. I hate that this happend because the food is great but the service is horrible!
