Mt Laurel Elementary School provides learning opportunities to students in kindergarten through grade three. Its academic curriculum includes various subjects, such as art, music, physical education, computers, math, reading, social studies and science. The school also offers special education, English Language Learners and gifted education programs. It additionally offers guidance counseling to students. The school participates in the Alabama Reading Initiative, which is a statewide initiative managed by the Department of Education to improve reading instruction and achieve literacy among public school students. It provides a literacy program that uses read aloud and phonics strategies, shared and guided reading, small group strategy lessons, and reading and writing workshops to meet individual needs of learners.
