  • Retina Specialists’ surgeons are ophthalmologists who on completing their ophthalmology residency program go on to post-doctoral fellowship training in the subspecialty of vitreoretinal surgery. The surgeons here at Retina Specialists offer an expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of diseases and injuries to the inner most structures of the eye – the retina and vitreous. The vitreous is an inert substance that fills the globe of the eye. The vitreous can become problematic in maturing adults as it begins to liquefy and separate from the retina but it does not have a vital function for vision and can be removed without consequence. The retina on the other hand is essential to vision. The retina lines the inner globe of the eye with light sensitive cells called rods and cones. It acts to send signals to the brain that are translated into what we know as vision. The health of the retina is necessary for good vision. All aspects of retinal conditions are diagnosed, treated, or surgically reconstructed by our surgeons.
