Established in 1969, the Black Canyon Fire Department employs men and women volunteers who provide protection from fires, flooding, accidents and illnesses. It has a rescue truck that features a 500 horsepower diesel engine, seating for six firefighters, single-stage pumps, over 1,200 gallon water tanks, hydraulic generators, roll-up compartment doors and emergency lighting package. The department is located in Black Canyon City, Ariz., and operates an emergency medical treatment unit. It organizes a variety of fundraising activities, such as community programs, dances, fiesta days, parades, bingo and bake sales. In addition, the Black Canyon Fire Department offers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid classes.
