Today the store has an incredible 50,000 square feet of retail space which is hard to imagine just standing out front. Since Alexander’s is so unique, many people regard the landmark as a tourist attraction. What began in 1953 as a small general store has now evolved into a shopping experience with casual yet trendy clothing and shoes, furniture, appliances, guns, and ammunition. As a family-owned business, Alexander’s maintains a set of shared traditions and values deeply rooted in the history of the store. Alexander’s is more than just a store. It’s a testimony of how a family business can be handed down from one generation to the next and be successful in today’s era of mega stores and online shopping. The next time you travel to the north Georgia mountains, stop in and wander around the store. Do not shop Alexander's Store in Blairsville. They do not back their products. I purchased a wallet for my husband on August 8th. We left for Russia on the 9th. He took his new wallet. By the time we returned on the 21st, the wallet looked awful. The corners were worn and the dye rubbed off. This was a $50 wallet. He stopped using it and I took it back to the store. They said I had to have the receipt or the box it came in. The purchase was listed on my bank statement. The bank said to print the statement. I went back to the store with the printed statement and wallet. I explained to them that I had not kept the box or receipt because I assumed that they sold quality merchanize. I was told too bad. So I am letting everyone know not to shop Alexander's.
