Provided by YP.comMy son loves Coffrin's ATA Martial Arts! Master Coffrin, Mrs. Coffrin, and two sons have truly created something special with their program! They not only teach martial arts and weapons training, but they also have an awesome leadership program which educates children on important foundational character traits such as being respectful, self-discipline, self-esteem, honesty, and communication. As an educator myself I have seen a decline in these very important life skills in children these days. If you want your child to have the added benefit of a high quality martial arts program along with leadership skills training, you will take a moment to consider Coffrin's ATA program! It is an investment that I will NEVER regret!

Provided by YP.comYou just don't get what you pay for at Coffin's. I wanted my kids to learn TKD not some made up version that isn't considered real. I wanted my kids to learn how to defend themselves. I wanted my kids to work for what they earned, not be given belts because they were bought. Do your research before signing the contract. Do not fall for the high pressure sales tactics used. Check out other schools, there are much better ones out there. My family and I belong to a better one now.

Provided by YP.comThe kids spend more time taking a knee and waiting for directions than actually participating. After viewing a class, I did not sign my children up. Really expensive to be kneeling and not being active.

Real studios do not make you pay more if you want to go to more than two classes a week, but ATA does. This is a place that is more focused on the almighty dollar than really teaching your child martial arts. If you pay for the rank graduation, your child will get a belt whether he/she remembers or not. Sparring is virtually non-existent - the focus on how fast your child can get into their gear than actually learning how to fight. And when there is sparring it's no contact. Isn't the whole point of martial arts to learn how to defend yourself and fight? A huge disservice is being done at Coffrin's - sending these children out in the world thinking they can fight when in reality they have no idea because they've been taught no contact. It's a scam. Beware.

I have known the Coffrin's for 10 years now and they are EXCELLENT instructors that run an EXCELLENT program....I don't know where "watered down forms and nonexistent sparring" come in at but this is obviously a fabricated lie. My husband and I are State Champions in taekwondo under the Coffrins (myself - forms and my husband- forms, sparring, and weapons) besides the many other students of theirs that have also acheived this distinction. This is a wonderful program that teaches great life values to children as well as adults. If you want the BEST martial arts training in the Bloomington/Normal area either for your kids or yourself, then choose Coffrin's ATA Martial Arts. You won't regret it. I frankly wouldn't take the negative post into consideration..... because it's all lies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have know Mr Coffrin for almost 20 years! He is a very good martial Artist, but more importantly, he is one of the best instructors I know! He and his wife are both certified instructors with the largest and most prestigious organization! There are reports on here that slander his name and defamate his character, and I can only surmise that these have been listed on here by one of his competitors! Cost is basically what someone is willing to pay...if you want a low integrity, second rate martial arts school, go elsewhere. But, if you want the best, go with Coffrins. Their costs are in line with other schools but the biggest difference, is, the Coffrins programs are WORTH it. I would suggest that anyone that wishes to take martial arts, try the Coffrin's.

Provided by YP.comWorth every penny! (My daughter is in Leadership and no they don't charge $300 a month). She has been taking classes at Coffrin's ATA Martial Arts for over a year now. I knew i got my money's worth when she brought home her first Straight A report card. She told me she wanted to be on Mr. Coffrin's A-team. Personally, I could care less if what style they study when I get results like this!
Hidden costs? You must not be a customer there because every student is given a FAQ sheet with everything listed on it. Either you are not a student, or you didn't read the sheet. BTW-Integrity and Honor, who better to trust as a role model than a 18 year Police Officer and Army Veteran? Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Coffrin!

These people are awesome! They take ordinary people, lift them up, and make them leaders. The life skills that they instill into their students and ANYONE around them are invaluable. They are full of integrity inside and outside of the studio and care deeply for all those who come into their lives. All of this can be witnessed by watching their own two boys. You just can't go wrong with Instructors like that!

It was very expensive. Not worth the money. Watered down forms and sparring was almost nonexistent. Deceptive sales pitch and uses your kid to try and push their school on you. Got nickel and dimed constantly - though with their prices it was more arm and legged. Buyer Beware. Not worth the investment!

I wanted my child to learn how to fight and defend himself if the need ever arose. My son was lured in through tactics like parties, winning money and other kid things. I was lured in by a slick sales talk. Then I read the contract. I paid close to 1500.00 for my son to become a black belt. This does not include rank testing or purchasing gear (which is grossly overpriced). I thought he'd be able to go to as many classes as he'd like, but to do that I'd have to upgrade to a more expensive contract that was 3 years. I guess I feel like the integrity that is so important in martial arts was missing. Why are their tiers? Why not have everyone be in Black Belt Club? The answer: Money. This company cranks out Black Belts like a factory without any thought to whether the child has the knowledge to move on or not. Other TKD schools around the nation refer to ATA as the McDojos of all McDojos and is an embarrassment to TKD.

Provided by YP.comDon't go there it is NOT WORTH THE MONEY! We invested in ATA for a year and I wish we hadn't. My daughter was limited to going to 2 classes a week and if I could pay for rank graduation, my daughter was given a new belt regardless whether she knew the stuff or not. I bought her belts; she did not earn them. Her belts are not acknowledged as true belts in other Taekwondo Dojangs. Coffrin's business is based on hidden costs and using the old "bait and switch" method. If my daughter wanted to go to more than 2 classes a week, we had to sign a 3 year contract - yep - 3 YEARS and pay approximately $300.00 a month for that privilege. And if my daughter didn't want to do it and wanted to stop after a year, I would still have to pay for the remainder of the contract. The Coffrin's preach about integrity and honor, but their business ethics is in direct contrast to what is coming out of their mouths. No thank you.
