Thomas Morrissey, M.D., FACOG, FACS, is director of gynecologic oncology at the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health, at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. He is a specialist in the surgical and chemotherapeutic treatment of ovarian, uterine, cervical and other female genital tract cancers.
Dr. Morrissey has extensive experience in robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery and radical surgical procedures to treat gynecologic cancers. He has additional interest and expertise in the treatment of patients with a genetic predisposition toward the development of ovarian and uterine cancers, as well as in the prevention and treatment of HPV-related precancerous changes and cancers of the cervix, vagina and vulva, including evaluation and treatment of abnormal Pap smears.
Dr. Morrissey joined Lynn Cancer Institute from Cleveland Clinic Florida, where he was the head of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. He also served as clinical assistant professor of surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He will continue his position as clinical affiliate associate professor at Florida Atlantic University Schmidt College of Medicine.
Dr. Morrissey has been recognized with a number of awards and honors. He was named the Administrative Chief Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Magee-Womens Hospital, a Clinical Teaching Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and arecipient of the Irene McLenahan Young Investigator Award at Magee-Womens Research Institute.
His research has been published in peer-reviewed publications, including Cancer, Gynecologic Oncology and Current Problems in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Fertility.
Dr. Morrissey is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American College of Surgeons. He is a full member of the Society of Gynecology Oncologists.
Dr. Morrissey’s approach to patient care includes immediate availability for consultation with patients with newly diagnosed or suspected gynecologic cancers so patients can start treatment as soon as possible. He offers state-of-the-art care, including robotic-assisted or radical surgical treatment when appropriate. He also collaborates with other members of the gynecologic oncology team to determine the best treatment options.
Dr. Morrissey prioritizes patient education and the care of not only the patient, but also their family regarding the diagnosis and the treatment plan chosen to maximize the chance for a cure. He also integrates and collaborates with supportive care services, including social work and palliative care, to improve each patient’s quality of life.
When he is not treating patients, Dr. Morrissey enjoys playing and watching soccer, basketball and golf, and spending time with his wife and three daughters.
