08-2020: I contacted Stiles to obtain a quote for a new HVAC unit. Their quote was one of the most reasonable ones I received. Due to renovations at my house I held off on installing a new system until it was done. So I scheduled the installation for a Friday. I never got a confirmation or time that they would be arriving so on Thursday I called to confirm the installation. The person on the phone said that it was indeed on the schedule for Friday and that they would be there around 9am. On Friday they showed up at 8am, earlier than I was ready for. I kept an eye on them through out their work. On their truck they brought with them the New Air Handler, New outdoor A/C, New outdoor pad, and a new Drain Pan. I had carpet cleaners coming that afternoon to clean all the carpet in the house. This kept me from keeping a better eye on what they were doing. During their swapping of the outside unit the tech was removing the R22 from my old unit, I watched him disconnect from the unit and allowing a white cloud of R22 vapor to release from my old unit. I am not sure if this is allowed by the EPA or not. They also said that they couldn’t fit the new unit through the attic access, so they took all the component out of my old unit and placed the components of the new unit into the old cabinet. This made me a bit on edge about the installation. I asked both techs to make sure the new drain pan would be installed. When they finished and left I did a walk through of the new unit and these were the issues I found. First the Drain Pan and outdoor pad were not installed. Secondly the old insulation around the line on the outside of the house was not replaced and was barely existing. Third, they left parts of my old unit in my attic and other trash. Fourth, they didn’t even replace the filter in the unit. I instantly contacted Stiles to alert them of the issues and sent an e-mail to Scott Wall who is the service manager of Stiles. The next week I got a reply from Scott that basically stated that they would deduct the cost of those items from my total. So I responded inquiring as to why the work was not all done and about the trash left behind. The next day I got a call from Scotty, he came out cleaned up the trash and placed insulation on the outside pipe. He told me that they would try to get the guys out next week to install the drain pan as my existing one is 15 years old and rusty. On Monday I called Scotty after 2pm and was told I would have an answer on when they would be coming out to install the drain pan. On Wednesday, I still had not received a call. I called Scotty again and was told that Scott was supposed to call me and that he would send him my number to contact me. I never received any call. On Thursday morning I called to inform them that I was over the Cat and Mouse game and I wanted the installation done ASAP. Finally, got a call from Scotty shortly after scheduling the installation for Monday at 7:30AM and he stated I would get a text confirming the appointment. I never got the text confirming the appointment but they did show up on time and installed the drain pan 2 weeks after the original installation. Not sure if I will ever utilize their company in the future.

09-2021 Update: I just received a renewal letter from Stiles for a service that I apparently received with the purchase of my new unit. Allowing me only time to get one of the two seasonal maintenance checkups on my new system. It is really crappy that a business makes no attempts to notify someone or inform them that they have this service with the purchase of their new system than a year later send them a renewal bill for $155. My interactions with this company have shown they are very unprofessional and are looking for any way to get money out of customers to do minimal to no work. I suggest you avoid this company or lose your money doing business with them.

i have had 2 repairs to my heat pumps made by stiles in the last 9 months. both times i was charged more than twice the retail price for replacement parts and over $100 per hour for labor. they dont give itemized bills so you dont know this until you investigate after you paid. they rip you off. beware

Reason for work:

My wife and I were looking to move into our new "older" home, but needed to replace the main floor HVAC ducting before doing so as we had mold issues in our crawl space. So we selected Stiles for the work.

Issues during HVAC installation:

It took 3 separate service visits to install HVAC ducting on the main floor of the house. First install visit appeared to have installed ducting in an acceptable manner. Found out a month later that one vent did not have ducting install at all and the returns and supplies were backwards. Between the first and second installation visits, we noticed these issues after another Stiles HVAC service person look at a frozen HVAC line coming from the HVAC unit. This guy came in the house noticed that the supplies were not working correctly but did not "understand" that was an issue. Second installation visit Stiles switched the HVAC ducting around to the correct supply and return ducts. Noticed that the HVAC ducting was laying on the ground after this visit, so...you guessed it we had them come back out again.

Comparison of work performed to level of work stated on website:

Stiles has stated on the website that " it pays to work with specialists who know the ins and outs of this field. No matter your HVAC needs, rely on the trained technicians and contractors at Stiles Heating & Cooling to guide you so that you can enjoy optimal indoor comfort."

In our experience Stiles installation / service "dudes" are inept, cannot clean up after themselves, lack basic understanding of HVAC design / installation, and lack the professional courtesy to resolve issues that come up. We continued to breath mold filled air for over a month (my wife is pregnant)!! False advertising...I would agree with that assessment.

Outcome / conclusion:

Stiles is a horrible company to do business with in Athens!! Do not use them for any HVAC service needs.

They have HORRIBLE customer service. Dishonest about when unit can be fixed and leave you in the dark for days as to when, how much, and what can be done.
