Saving one life gives someone their child, spouse, parent back. They save families.

Communities always fight to keep methadone clinics out of their neck of the woods. They don't want "that element" anywhere near their homes, businesses, or families. They believe addiction is not a disease but a decision to be immoral and unethical. And since the addicts are to sick and afraid to respond to that the opponents are the only ones with the microphone. The result of the situation is a vicious cycle of guilt, shame, withdrawal, and finally relapse. Even if addiction is not a disease [which it is], treating it as a crime and addicts as criminals will always just drive them further into addiction.

Stepping Stones Wellness Center is staffed 100% by people with years of experience in treating addiction. Their previous experiences and the previous experiences of their patients have been in other methadone treatment clinics which almost always and in every location follow similar business and treatment models. The majority of clinics have policies that are "marriages" of the 'addiction is a disease' idea nearly all professionals in the field believe and the 'addicts are people of bad character making choices' persecution of the general public. Patients are told they have a disease but are then treated with a very heavy handed methodology more similar to a prison than a clinic. Patients are not trusted and feel as much and soon an us vs. them mentality exists between staff and client [notice I did not say patient]. The result is addicts who feel as though they simply traded one substance for another and their addiction is as strong as ever. On the other side of the coin are counselors that feel their wheels are just spinning, no one is recovering, and they are so trapped within their own policies that they can't treat people as individuals or do the work they trained so hard to do.

Program director David Brumfield, and medical director Dr. Jana Burson opened Stepping Stones at much financial risk to themselves and their families for one reason, because they wanted to practice the ideals and individual attention and care they believed in so much when they started training for this career. The people they've hired applied for the job and were accepted for the job because they also believe in the power of a kind, caring, and empathetic approach to recovery.

I am an addict and a patient at Stepping Stones. The staff treats me like family and feel like my family. They care about my family. Not only do they regularly ask about my son by name, they occasionally ask about my dog by name. They do that because the things that I care about, they care about. I bring plants for decor, magazines for the lobby, and often will spend hours each week, besides counseling, just chatting.

The difference between Stepping Stones and previous treatment facilities is not being told this is my clinic too, the difference is being treated as and knowing that it truly is MY clinic too. I love the people there and I know they love me too and every night as I say my prayers the people of stepping stones are one of the first blessings I thank God for. If you are tired of being sick or feel your treatment is not moving forward, go to Stepping Stones, you will be so glad you did.

Methadone Outpatient Treatment

Going to Stepping Stones Wellness Center is probably the best choice I've ever made. I'm a recovering heroin addict and I've been on methadone maintenance for 10 years. I recently decided to switch to Stepping Stones because I was in a rut at the clinic I was then attending. I was not in recovery any longer. I was merely existing. At Stepping Stones I feel I can take the next step in my recovery process! Finally! The director, David Brumfield has the most exciting ideals for groups and counselling! Besides being a very nice, very intelligent man, it's obvious, as soon as you meet him, that he's also a very caring man! He's taken on the battle against addiction as his life,s work and he means business! If you're struggling with an addiction, please call Stepping Stones Wellness Center in Boone. You'll be treated as family!
