Boston Transportation Department
1 City Hall Sq, Boston, MA 02201
More than 375,000 vehicles are registered in the city of Boston and another estimated 600,000 are driven in daily. The Boston Transportation Department is responsible for regulating traffic and parking on local streets in Boston and it accomplishes this task through a combination of planning, engineering and enforcement measures. BTD utilizes engineering practices aimed at providing safe and effective traffic circulation on Boston s streets. The department also implements and enforces curbside parking regulations, and collects and adjudicates the fines and fees resulting from parking tickets and tows. In addition, it incorporates Boston s interests into state and federal roadway developments, such as the Central Artery/Tunnel mega-project, and works to promote alternative modes of transportation for downtown commuters. BTD s initiatives must respect historic preservation, yet work toward maintaining access, managing parking and balancing the transportation needs of both the residential and business communities in Boston. The Boston Transportation Department has an office in Boston.
