The Boulder Police Department enforces laws, safeguards citizens rights, and preserves peace, order and safety in the state of Colorado. It maintains an investigation division that investigates criminal activities, conducts follow-up investigations, gathers evidence and identifies suspects. The Boulder Police Department also has a records division that manages and processes department reports, requests, firearm permits, registrations and documents. The police department supports the Crime Stoppers program, which is affiliated with the National Crime Stoppers Organization and provides opportunities for citizens to report illegal activities to volunteers of the program. Located in Boulder, Colo., the Boulder Police Department operates a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team that specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and barricaded gunman situations.
