The Center for People with Disabilities is a private, nonprofit agency that provides resources and advocacy services to assist people in overcoming barriers to independent living. Established in 1977, the center conducts life skills classes for people who are transitioning from custodial care into the community. It organizes yoga programs and cross-disability groups that meet regularly to share information and experiences. The center also provides assistance with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, eating and toileting. It additionally offers physical occupational therapy services. The Center for People with Disabilities community transition services help empower individuals to move from institutions and nursing homes into the community. The center also allows low-income to live affordably in integrated settings and maintains one of its offices in Boulder, Colo.
