Think of the best epic fantasy novel there is, whether it be Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, or whatever your favorite is. Now, imagine that you and your school friends are the heroic characters in that story, and you get to decide how to overcome the challenges that the story presents. This is Adventure Quest.

In a climate of respect, imagination, empowerment, and excitement, the children and teens band together to dramatize their adventure with an adult Quest Leader. Along the way, they find a map to pirate's treasure, negotiate with a tree elf, and duel with goblins using safe, foam swasher swords.

Adventure Quest is an active, outdoor, Renaissance-themed theater game designed to develop self-esteem, team-building, and creative problem-solving skills. The children and teens are the heroes of an incredibly fun and dynamic quest, working together in a mythical and magical world to overcome interesting challenges, solve mystifying riddles, brainstorm unique solutions to puzzling dilemmas and swashbuckler with foes.

The kids experience the excitement and confidence that comes from banding together to defend their village, solve a perplexing mystery, or negotiate a peace treaty. Adventure Quest makes creative use of safe foam Swashers in an environment that teaches good sportsmanship, fair play, and respect for others.

Our three kids (ages 13, 11 and 6) attended an adventure quest camp this week and it was absolutely awesome. This happened to be an exceptionally hot week and the camp was entirely outdoors so I was worried they would burn out, but they loved every minute. Somehow, in the middle of a somewhat bedraggled park, in 97 degree weather, the quest leaders managed to create an incredibly rich imaginary world full of amazing creatures, magical potions, fierce duels and mysterious puzzles. (And also some pretty goofy songs, which had the kids cracking up.) The leaders maintain great energy, enthusiasm and passion for the adventure, and it's infectious. Our kids came home exhausted but exhilerated every single day, and they can't wait to go back to continue the quest later this summer. This is a great program for kids with imagination!!

The top of the list

While participating in another fun summer camp my 3 kids asked if they could sign up for Renaissance camp. They had seen them questing in the mountains. I did not think think this camp was for us but boy was I wrong. For the past 3 years this is the only camp all 3 kids really want to do. The imagination and creative encouragement that RA builds upon is amazing. The take home value is the best part. My now 12, & 10 (boys) and 8 year old girl have something in common. They can play for hours in the world that was created during RA. The camp is always new and continually builds upon your previous adventure. This is hands down the best camp Boulder, Colorado has to offer!

A Home Run

RA, as we call it in our house has been our son's very most favorite activity for over 1/2 of his 11 years on the planet. In six years of participation, his love of RA has yet to waver. His ultimate dream is an entire summer of RA camp. And while the camp is indeed a bit pricey, it's a bit like going to an extraordinary restaurant. It's a good value. The quality and training of the Quest leaders and the structure of their Quests is second to none. We tried some of the other camps that model themselves on RA, but there's nothing like going to the source. Kudos to the entire RA staff for creating such a magical place. All I can suggest is that you give it a try. (Oh, and while not as single minded about it as her brother, his younger sister does love it, too.)

The awesomest summer camp ever

Renaissance Adventures is a cool camp because you get to do role-playing and play with foam swords. I like playing my character and winning battles. I also like creating solutions to codes and riddles. The quest leaders are very good at improvising the story if we perform an action that's not expected. We work as a team to complete missions. I like being outdoors because it's a more realistic environment. However, when it's raining, I'm glad we have a place to go indoors. If my parents would let me, I'd go to this camp every week in the summer! (I'm 12 years old and I will be 13 in July.)
