We frequent this place usually for Sunday breakfast. The staff is always nice, friendly and clean. The food is as it says, country style home cooking and tasty.

Homemade English muffins were so yummy! Great country atmosphere and great waitresses. We enjoyed this restaurant and will be stopping here again.

Rude Hostess!

They should fire employees who hate people like this hostess does! Boy did it show! Rude to waitress, and short with customers.. Food, frozen and not homemade. Food okay at best. It was however cheap, you get what you Pay for......

Don't be fooled

Any good reviews were written by employees and owner. Nasty food! The waitresses smell like ashtrays and the food is just awful. Dirty tables and dishes! No pride here, just a place to take your money in exchange for greasy tasteless glop. Never heard of spices? Any reviews of warm fuzzy stories are lies. A friend told me that they had another place before this one that was closed due to unsanitary conditions. There's no need for a place like this.

Place is wonderfull. I eat there at least 4 times a week for the last 5 months. I've tried just about everything on the menu and haven't had anything that wasn't just plain and simple good homestyle cooking. I think the other comments on here are from the other restaurants, jmo! The only advice I can give is to come early. The parking downtown fills up fast at lunch and the dining room is full! Great Great Food!

This place is wonderful! I stopped in to see some family of mine in Bowie over the holidays and ate there everyday we were in town. They have a daily lunch special with homestyle food. By far the best place in town and in the area. Neat place in downtown. They even have a old time neon sign. You can tell they spent a lot of time on the place. I ordered the CFS every time and it's wonderfull. If you try to take on the Texas size, bring a friend! It is the size of a plate. They have a customer for life.

I initially loved the fact that there was a sit-down restaurant that wasn't dated and dirty in bowie, tx. The decor is great, and the place is clean. We've been 3 times, twice more than I said I would, only for hopes that things had changed/improved. First time, was a week or so after grand opening. First visit, they were very busy, and service was slow and disorganized. Food was fair, we were given dessert on the house which was banana pudding in a jelly jar. It was fair. The owner/manager was manning the cash register/computer at the front door and having great difficulty. She never said, thanks for coming in, sorry for the wait, or come back again. She didn't seem to care at all, just wrapped up in the fact she couldn't take in the money that was ill-earned. Second time, we were told to seat ourselves, and then it took forever for our waitress to show up to take our drink order. The chicken fried steak was over-cooked, bordering on burnt. The neat little scoop of mashed potatoes was cold in the center. Green beans bland and tasteless. The rolls that are supposed to be the highlight of the place, are dry and flavorless as well. Some honey would be an improvement. Took my husband over there last week, hoping that they had got into a rhythm and things had improved. There was a large birthday party in the back, and MAMA manager/owner was sitting in the back booth, visiting with the birthday party while we stood at the front door, waiting to be seated. There is no hostess stand or anyone watching the door, although there were several young ladies in waitress t-shirts standing at the back looking toward the front door, and not moving. That kind of makes my blood boil. If you're not eager to seat me, i'm not so eager to give you my money or business. We finally got seated by a waitress at the front that was refilling her customers tea glasses. We finally got our drink orders taken by a waitress that had clearly been outside smoking, because she reeked of cigarette smoke. They were out of Diet Coke, how is that possible??? There's a Brookshires, and a Wal-Mart within a stone's throw of the place! Someone is not taking care of business. We ordered the CFS again and it was better, good actually, but the gravy was a lumpy mess of paste, flavorless and barely warm. Ordered the baked potato this time, hubby got the MP's, and my baked potato wasn't cooked thoroughly. My dinner salad had brown bits of lettuce in it, you're familiar with that, right? When you buy it in a bag at wal-mart, it ruins quickly if it's not used within a day or two! The rolls again were dry and flavorless. I asked to speak to the manager, it was Mama the owner, which I think is a bad idea, too many emotions, and inability to take constructive criticism....She came to the talbe and asked, "what's the problem?' She didn't introduce herself or ask how we were or how the food/service was. She went into how many tables were in the place and how much staff she pays and how she has a hostess but couldn't remember if she had let her go home or not, or even who she was. She definitely wasn't interested in hearing what we had to say. Didn't offer a discount, or coupon to come back, etc. We're through MAMA, it's too bad too. I could be your manager and that place would be packed to the rafters every night, because you have the connections with the community to keep people, or your friends coming in, but you've already had to close one business in the same place recently. At this rate, you'll be closing this one too.

I don't know why there are bad reviews for this place. With the exception of bad service once (I complained, hasn't happened since), this has become my favorite place to eat in my small town. The prices are extremely reasonable (lunch specials particularly). I highly recommend their chicken fried steak and fried catfish. I usually don't like meringue pies but I love Sweet Boys coconut pie. And the banana pudding (though rarely available) is the best not-made-by-my-mama anywhere. Love the decor, good menu, music not too loud. Definitely a place to stop and eat.

I stopped in Bowie on my way to Colorado to fuel up and asked the guy, "where is the best place to get a home cooked meal in town?" He told me about Sweet Boy's Diner and my wife and I headed to the downtown area. My only complaint is that I had to drive around 10 minutes to get a parking spot there. It's located in the historic downtown distric of Bowie and you can't miss it with the vintage neon sign that says Diner in 4 foot tall bright red neon letters. It didn't take long to get a table and the decor inside was truly neat. I went around to each booth to look at the vintage pictures that they had of the good ol' days. I'm guessing they were from around the area. Waitress were all very nice and our service was very good. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and my wife had a chicken platter with peppers, tomatoes and cheese. Let's just say we both cleaned our plates! When dessert came around I had the coconut pie and when I ordered it thinking it would be a box pie. No way! this thing was 100% homemade and was to die for! We bought an entire pie for the road. Sweet Boy's I don't know how you do it but you have it going on in Bowie. Consider us repeat customers and I'm telling all my buddies in Houston. Get some signs on the highway, but by the looks of your parking lot, you don't need them.
