Fort Clark is located south of Brackettville, Texas. It was established on June 20, 1852 at Las Moras Springs, at the head of Las Moras Creek, it was a site long favored by indigenous Coahuiltecan Indians and later by Comanche, Apache and other Indian Tribes. In 1849, Lieutenant W.H.C. Whiting during his reconnaissance for a practical route between San Antonio and El Paso, recognize its military potential and recommended the location as a site for a fort.
Fort Clark's purpose was to protect the military road to EL Paso and to defend area settlements from Indian depredations arising from either side of the border.
Today, Fort Clark Springs is a 2700 acre gated resort and leisure living community, bordering US Highway 90 at Brackettville, TX.Since 1971, the Fort Clark Springs Association has developed this peaceful, secure place to live and relax while carefully preserving a significant National Register Historic District which holds a prominent place in the history of our nation.
