IS THIS THE FUNERAL HOME YOU W...

IS THIS THE FUNERAL HOME YOU WANT HELPING YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONES AT A DEVASTATING TIME IN YOUR/THEIR LIVES!!!!!!!

The shameful way that Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory treated a dead man's young child is abominable.

Do you want to deal with a funeral home where employees are encouraged to scream obscenities at bereaved family members? Yes, the owner identified himself as such and handed the telephone to this employee then listened to her screeching filth at an elderly lady.

Do you want to deal with a funeral home that has employees withholding ashes because they feel that the family of the deceased wasn't "nice to" them? And this behavior is being condoned by the owner Gene Brown himself!!

This is the statement that the family is releasing to media outlets, sharing with the Sarasota County District Attorney's Office and is accompanying their complaint to the State of Florida's The Division of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services.

A little girl wants to know why Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory in Bradenton, Florida, is aiding an employee in withholding her Daddy's ashes.

James raised his young daughter Makenna as a single father. In recent years James became involved with, and started cohabiting with, a woman, Robin N., who works for Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory.

On Tuesday, August 5, 2014, James died of lung cancer at the age of 45. He is survived by his young daughter Makenna, two brothers, a sister, and their families.

James's girlfriend's employer, Brown & Sons, collected his body from Tidewell Hospice and was charged with arrangements for the cremation.

Within less than 48 hours of James's death Ms. N. had the locks changed on the house that she, James and little Makenna had shared. 14 year old Makenna was not permitted to collect her clothing, personal items, or mementos of her dead father before she was locked out of her home.

Ms. N. is now refusing to share James's ashes with his young daughter.

A member of James's family contacted Mr. Brown, owner of Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, directly regarding the death certificate and to alert him that there may be some challenges with the distribution of the ashes. Mr. Brown stated that his employee Robin would not be providing James's little girl with any of his ashes "until the family calls and is nice to (her)". Ms. N. also wrote and had published, more than ten days after his death, an inaccurate obituary. When little Makenna's biological grandmother called to speak with Mr. Brown regarding this, he handed the telephone to Ms. N. who proceeded to scream obscenities at this bereaved lady.

In asking his girlfriend to assist in funeral arrangements, James intended only to make the days following his death easier for his beloved daughter; not for his girlfriend, with active assistance from Brown & Sons, to make this horrific time even harder for the child he adored.

All Makenna wants to do is have even some of her Daddy's ashes and to be able to sprinkle them in the places they shared special family moments - as the two of them had discussed when it became apparent that he would not live to see her grow up.

Complaints are being filed with, among others, The Division of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services. Everything in this review is documented and recorded, and can be proven.

Not recommended. My parents thought they had prearranged their entire funeral using Browns. Turns out all they have arranged is a casket, liner and being embalmed and picked up by the hearse. All the other details were left undone. When I called to follow up, all they were willing to tell me was how much I owed. They did not like having to admit to all the items not included. They did point out one of their services was to direct people to sign the quest book. The spoke to me in jargon, and tried to pass me off to other employees, as no one really wanted to assist me. I would NEVER recommend this place.
