Dr. Gopalam is great. She is a caring physician and very thorough. the one-star rating here is not even for this practice (its for a pediatrician's office)

Oh, Somerset Pediatric Group, where do I begin...My twins were born in New Brunswick, and this group is an affiliate of the hospital. Dr. Youngerman was the first pediatrician we saw: gruff, in a rush, not listening. I asked a question about immunizations and got an angry "vaccines are not connected to autism" lecture from him, even though my question had nothing to do with that issue. Ok, I thought, maybe if we see another dr - it's a large group - we'll have a better experience.

We saw Dr. Ebel, who did not make eye contact with me, barely examined my kids and left me more baffled then when I came in.

So next time we saw Dr. Hede, who I had to fight with over eye medication he prescribed my 3 month old child. I did my research ahead of time and contradicted what he said: i wanted eye drops instead of eye cream. After me practically cornering him he conceded with "Fine but it won't help". However, with the medication I requested the issue my child was having disappeared within a week.

Next we saw Dr. Needleman for a gastric virus. Same problem: arrogant, treating us (the parents) like we were a bothersome annoyance, eager to leave the room. I was told that since my child didn't have a life-threatening disease, I have to watch it suffer and there is nothing he could do to help. I got a second opinion from a different pediatrician, and received a great recommendation on using non-prescription, organic supplement that worked wonders.

That was last time we went to this group. My children were about 9 months old at that point. Interestingly enough, I never got a phone call/reminder/inquiry on why we never came back for 1 year appointment/follow up...They treat pediatric patients like cogs in a factory, never bother to learn the names of your children and don't care about not "non serious" issues. Also, as a first-time parent, I wasn't keen on having to grab the doctors by the lapels to answer my questions. They always overbooked, and, as a result, we had to wait very long for a short, unsatisfactory exam.

I switched to Dr. McInness in Pluckemin, and wow, what a difference. Haven't looked back in 3 years.
