If I could give them zero stars I would. They are only interested in money, not the welfare or health of animals. They are rude and disrespectful, taking advantage of people who love their furry kids and are vulnerable when they are sick or injured. I hope that the vets in the area figure this out and come up with another option for sick animals.

A month ago I called the EMEV to ask a few questions about my cat who was hobbling. The woman on the phone was so disrespectful and abrupt that I hung the phone up. Later that night I had to call back because my cat was declining, and she startled me so much that I felt I had no choice but to bring him in. I got there around 9pm, and sat there until almost 2am, for them to run every test in the book, take xrays, charge me $600 and then MISdiagnose him with "trauma" from possibly roughhousing with my dog. last weekend I went for a re-check with OUR vet and I was blown away to find that he had a BONE INFECTION from having fleas as a kitten.. there was never any trauma, no fractures, nothing as the emergency vet had charged me for. I will NEVER return there. They don't care about your animal, they care about getting your money, sitting on their cellphones and playing on that computer in their office on facebook.. Horrible experience, horrible office.

EASTERN MAINE EMERGENCY VETRY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR PET OR YOU! ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS GETTING PAID!! I am nursing my dying cat as i speak. I just took a minute to let the good people out there know what kind of (quote) "ANIMAL LOVERS" This Emergency vet clinic is! My sweet baby girl is in labor and she is not doing good She had four kittens last night between 9:00 p.m. and 3:30a.m. it is now 10:04 p.m. the following evening and she is still in labor but has'nt the energy or the will to push. She is thoughrily exausted she still has two more in her belly and just cant do it. I am so scared for her,SO I called these" lovely folks" because it is an "Emergency" and i have spent hundreds if not thousands at this clinic in recent years. They told me theres nothing i can do for her and without treatment immediately she will not survive!! Well I am 2hours away from there and i didnt expect them for two more weeks so i have no money i live on a fixed income and i just had to use my savings to fix my house so the insurance company wouldnt cancel my insurance. I am a responsible pet owner and was taking her to the vet next week when my paycheck comes but right now have nothing. anyways, They said she wont make it w/out vet care and that they will not even look at her until i pay for it upfront!! She told me it is going to be in the hundred's!! So i begged for them to see her and work something out with me, I love my cat I WILL PAY FOR THE BILL IN ONE WEEK!!! MY CAT IS GOING TO DIE WITHOUT THEIR HELP TONIGHT AND THERE THE ONLY ER VET IN HUNDREDS OF MILES, They Said "NO I'M SORRY WE CANT DO THAT" THEY SAID "WE HAVE BILLS TO PAY TO" I'm sorry but I have NEVER seen a Veterinarian driving around in a clunker or living in a run down trailor in a trailor park Have you?? I think the Vet could help an animal that will die without help once in a great while and worry about getting paid later, Or maybe for free because they supposedly love animals and cant stand to see the animal suffer. But apparently they arent in it to help animals at all!! Just in it for there wallet. Its not like they dont overcharge for everything in the first place!! OK i'm rambling now but i'm just so mad!! I have to go now and tend to my baby girl. Please Pray for Her and Her Kittens..

We had to take our little dog here to say goodbye and every member of staff we met was so genuinely sympathetic and caring. We had called ahead to get directions and they weren't busy so they quickly took our details then showed us into a treatment room. They explained everything to us and told us to take as long as we needed. Their aftercare was also very good.

We had to take our rescue Yorkie to this place as she was vomiting and had diarrhea. The vet that was there determined that she had coccinia and that she would need medication to resolve this bacteria issue. I asked the vet about two different and very specific medications that would help her with the diarrhea and he told me that she would be fine. Well I spent the ENTIRE night awake as my dog was sick with diarrhea that never seemed to stop. The next morning we took her to our regular vet and she asked if they offered any medication to assist with her diarrhea. I told her of the two medications that I requested and she said that they would have helped her throughout the night. My poor dog now has to spend the day and the night at the vet as she is dehydrated and is worse than when I brought her here. The reason I was given that they did not give these medications was based on "scientific" basis. They are NOT the place to take your pet for a medical emergency. They said they should have offered me to keep my dog overnight so I would not have had to deal with her being sick all night. I wanted my dog not to be sick at all...They are unprofessional and just plain stupid in my book.

I called ahead and took my 15 year old lethargic cat in about a half hour later on Thanksgiving. There was no wait, they got me right into a room, and treated my cat and I both with care and professionalism. They informed my of my options all along the way, as well as how much those options would cost. The visit & emergency fee were under a hundred dollars, which I found reasonable. Labs & urine tests were more, but no more than I have had to pay at regular vet clinics. They allowed me to decide what to do for my elderly cat without pushing me to have her put down, and I feel set realistic expectations for me for her recovery. Everyone was gentle and spent time with my girl, were helpful when I called a few hours later to check on her, and the vet called me to check in before she went home for the day. I was only in the office for about an hour and a half - much less than I expected. I had planned on spending almost two thousand dollars since she would be in for two days, their quote was less than half of that. An emergency visit for me, with labs, 2 days of overnight stay, X-rays and urinalysis would cost me more than this will - and that is after insurance. Having pets sometimes means health care...these people have chosen to spend their thanksgiving day in a profession that has them helping upset, inconvenienced people who have sick animals...I'll happily pay the extra fifty dollars for the visit.

Sunday morning, we called Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Brewer, ME and told them our cat's symptoms. They told us to bring him in immediately, so we pooled together all of the cash that we had and drove an hour to get there. Here's a math equation for you:

A diagnosis of "fever of unknown origin"



We were there from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and our cat was actually only with the vet for a total of maybe 15 minutes. In that 15 minutes, we found out he had a fever of 106.3 F, he had almost no white blood cells, and when our cat tested negative for Cat AIDS and Leukemia, the vet threw in the towel and started preparing a treatment plan-- a treatment for an illness he didn't investigate beyond 15 minutes and had come to no conclusion on. How does that make sense? Furthermore, the vet was helpful only when asked. Why we had to ask him what was causing the low white blood cell count if not AIDS or Leukemia is beyond me. Wouldn't that be the next natural thing to talk about? Why they played down our cat's physical state is also beyond me. All the vet did was tell us the cat tested negative for Leukemia and AIDS and then went on to put together his "treatment plan", which, by the way, was essentially a cooling pack and antibiotics (for an infection that may or may not have even been there, who knows). This was because the inpatient care was going to cost $670.00, though I'm sure the inpatient care would have just been a glorified version of the $367.90 treatment plan the vet came up with.



This place is a "band-aid station". It's great if your dog has a swollen face or something but if your pet is actually dying? It's useless and they could really care less, especially if you don't have the money to pay for it. We gave them our last $325.00 and tapped ourselves out. Due to the fact that my sister had no established credit, she was not eligible for their credit line. Yet, she was perfectly capable of paying them back in installments. Of course, that's not how they do things.



Monday night we called them because our cat stopped eating completely, he was shaking and having muscle spasms, and his front paws curled in as if his forearms had become paralyzed. The vet wouldn't even talk to us and the woman who answered the phone played messenger for him, relaying the same thing the vet told us when there were there; the cat's discomfort was because of the fever and we should try to get him to eat, etc. We were also told that we "could bring him in for a re-examination if we wanted to." which confirms that they did not feel there was anything severely wrong with the cat beyond fever and infection even after we called to say he was getting worse.



Our cat cried all night long and was dead by early morning.



I would recommend Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic only if your pet's medical issue is mild. I went in there feeling as though our cat might be dying and left feeling as though he only had a fever and infection to ride out. After this experience, I do not trust or have any faith whatsoever in their competency in treating emergency medical conditions.



Please note that this was just our experience. I seriously hope it's not always like this.

I took my dog in for swelling on her face. They treated her like she was their own. Very professonal and caring. I would definately recommend them in an emergency or when your regular vet is closed.

Brought my dog in for heatstroke over this past summer. Although yes it was busy and I had a bit of a wait they took great care of my dog. The staff was compassionate and caring. Reading the other reviews I am disappoitned because this is a great clinic. yes it is expensive but unlike human medicine there is no healthcare for pets. Their costs are on par with the veterinary clinics in the area. Owning a pet is a responsibilty not a right and you have to realize there are costs associated with that. You can't go to a grocery store and expect to get food without paying for it so it is completely reasonable to expect that they need to be paid for their services. And just like a human ER cases are treated on a triage basis seeing the most urgent ones first. The staff was apologetic for my wait and it was a great comfort to me knowing my pet was well cared for.

Horrible. I had a 4 hour wait. In the mean time my dog started bleeding out of his paw all over the waiting room. The staff never cleaned it up. The customers in the waiting room cleaned the blood up with paper towels from the bathroom. It was so unsanitary, I was more worried of my dog getting an infection from the waiting room, than his hurt paw. If I had another option I would never go there again. The bill came to over $400, for about 15 minutes of attention from the vet. If I could have closed his wound myself I would have. I could have driven to Portsmouth NH, and been seen by one of their vets and gotten back before they saw me here. SO crazy...never again.

Eastern Maine Emergency Vetry in Brewer is the very defination of a strickly business operation. They care nothing for animals and should be closed for fraud. They claim to care for animals but do not! I am disabled on a fixed income but could come up with the 96.00 just to get my daughters new 8 week old puppy into a room. But then was informed that they would do nothing else for the puppy no exam ect. Unless I could provide the money upfront for any testing to be done and told to take the puppy to Portland or Lewiston due to their "policy"! The puppy was lethargic and had white gums and vomiting .... told nothing they could do and to let the dog die. Well they got their wish...Aden passed on at 2:30 this morning...she couldn't hold out to see our normal vet in the morning....RIP Aden. May any pet owner out there beware!
