There is really no point in dealing with the prejudices of people like the previous reviewer, who has probably never come to downtown Bridgeton at night (as I have, often) and is judging the town by its income level and slightly scruffy appearance. Historic Bridgeton is a wonderful, spirited little town (and I don't mean just wine-and-spirited!), and Hummel's is a terrific store--where you can actually buy the daily New York Times! Amazingly it's run by an Indian couple who never drink, the kindest sweetest people in the world.Their eastern charm is matched only by their public spirit. If they don't have what you want (and their stock is not normally cutting edge), you need only ask and they will get it for you. And their wine and beer tastings are a trip--I've discovered several innovations there I'd have otherwise missed. Come on down, or over! The Bridgeton House Tour, first Saturday in December, is a classic not to be missed.
