My husband read about this place in GQ Magazine article about the best steakhouses in America. The fact that Maddox Ranch House made the list tells me that steaks in Utah must be really, really bad!

The restaurant is like a shiny beacon in the farmland that is Brigham City. The parking lot is huge and there's even a beef barn in the back (kind of alarming when you think about it). We visited around noon on a Saturday and the place was packed with local old timers (interestingly, most of them were doing takeout orders). We had a short wait and climbed the stairs to the upper level dining room. The atmosphere was homey and looked like your Grandma's dining room. Not much decor that keeps things plain and simple. We had to wait about 10 minutes before we were greeted by our server.

I was happy to see Diet Dr. Pepper as one of the soda options, and my husband ordered the homemade root beer (they make two different varieties). Both of our drinks were fizzy and tasty. That's one of the only positives I have to say about our food and experience here.

Every meal comes with a bread basket that includes cornbread (very good) and rolls (just okay, they reminded me of fluffy Wonder Bread) and a special raspberry butter (gross). Also included is your choice of potato (we had veggies which were a blend of broccoli and carrots and were fine but nothing notable), and a soup or salad. The soup of the day was Cheesy Vegetable and it was thick and disgusting. I'm pretty sure this wasn't homemade and was just dumped out of a frozen block of soup. I ate the broccoli out of it and couldn't bring myself to touch the rest. The house salad was mediocre but the homemade salad dressing was the standout.

This being a steakhouse, we both ordered meat. I had the filet mignon and hubby had the ribeye. First off, I'm pretty sure I did NOT get served a filet mignon. My steak looked and tasted more like a sirloin, and I think this place ripped me off. It was tough and hard to cut, even with my sharp steak knife. When have you ever known a filet to be tough? Second, the steaks weren't seasoned AT ALL. All you could taste was this unpleasant, almost bloody meat flavor (gross, I know). No amount of butter (they don't offer steak sauce on the tables) or seasoning could save this meat. This place was so bad that I've sworn off steaks for a little while.

I pushed the beef around my plate and never once was asked how everything tasted. I don't even know what I would've said, but this was a disaster of a meal. Adding insult to injury was the fact that our lunch for two cost upwards of $85. Yes, EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS for a junk meal.

The ONLY reason I'm rating this place two stars is because of the dessert. We had the special of the day, homemade strawberry pie, and it was crazy amazing. If you insist on dining here, only get the dessert. Everything else is a real letdown.

I had the fried chicken, rolls with the raspberry butter, the banana split and the sasbarilla. Everything was so good! The banana split was gigantic and the rolls with the raspberry butter were delicious and the fried chicken was the best I've ever had! Sooo good!

I think this place is a total worthless joke.my husband ,son, and I went there for the first time,I will definitely ensure it is the last.way overpriced for what you get.we were quite disapointed.I will admit the fries are tasty, but the burger was a joke,no flavor, the shake was dinky for four dollars.if you want a real drive inn treat go to burger bar in Roy...there shakes hang over the top,and you can get a quad for half price.even the server car hop lady, the blonde with glasses mentioned it was over priced.thanks anyway, next time well go to taco bell, better meal.
