I just had an exceptional experience buying a used car at Jay Pahl's Auto Sales and I am Very Happy to have this opportunity to tell you about it! My wife and I were looking for a newer car and came down to Jay Pahl's Auto Sales on 107 Stafford Avenue in Bristol, CT. From the moment we walked onto the lot, the employees and salesperson were attentive and polite. The salesman that I got to work with, Chris Demora, was eager to satisfy my curiosity both about the cars I was looking at, and the process of making the purchase. I am not a typical customer, and my need for information went far beyond your typical what's the price, what can you do for me, what are the specs. Chris stayed with me from beginning to end, with patience and goodwill. I know that salesmen are trained to smile while working with customers, but never for a moment that I doubt that Chris smile was genuine, and that he was as pleased to be sitting and engaging with me as I was talking with him. As my wife took car for test drive with Chris, I spent time with Jay Pahl, the owner, I have to say that Jay was extremely receptive to my technical mechanical inquiries, and I truly felt that he and Chris were conscientiously looking to create a deal that would benefit both Jay Pahl's Auto Sales and us. After closing the deal and driving away in my new car, I felt better than I have ever felt at the end of such an important transaction. I absolutely know where I will be going for my next car purchase. Thank you so much. You Guys are the BEST!!!!!!

We purchased a 2000 Subaru Outback Sedan from Jay Pahl's auto Sales in June of 2015 for my 16 yr old son. We were told the car had been through a thorough safety inspection as well as mechanical inspection, and the car was sound.

The day after we bought it the check engine light came on. We called and were told it was an oxygen sensor and that it didn't need to be fixed, when the time came for an inspection they would get it through inspection. The check engine light was on and off repeatedly, but we were told more than once not to worry about it.

In early October 2015 4 months after buying the vehicle, my son was driving the car and the right front tire fell off. Luckily he was driving in a neighborhood at the time, not at high speeds on the highway, which he has just exited. It turned out that the nut that held the tire onto the vehicle was missing, though the cover for it was on the tire... so much for a safety inspection.

I called the salesman, Chris, and explained the problem. At first he said that there was nothing they could do. but after explaining that I would be sure to let people know of my experience and that fact that my son could have been killed driving a car that was clearly not safety inspected as they promised Chris agreed to replace the axel and ensure the tires were secure on the vehicle.

Recently we had an oil change done at another establishment on the vehicle and found that the seal on the axel was leaking. It needed to be replaced.. and while they had the car they plugged it in to check the code for the check engine light, it was not only for an oxygen sensor but also for the catalytic convert which now also needs to be replaced, another $1200 repair that Jay Pahl was aware of and sold the car under the guise of just an oxygen sensor that needed to be replaced.

I would never ever deal with Jay Pahl again. The are quite obviously not honest, and have no concern for safety whatsoever.

Anyone who asks me, I warn them and I make sure they know if out experience. what i thought was a safer bet from buying a vehicle from Craig’s list turned out to be no more than a more expensive way of buying a car that is no better than something I could have picked up in the junk yard.

I would avoid this business at all costs.

Wow. I'm shocked at the bad reviews. Ive been having J. Pahl work on my cars for years and have never ever had any issues. He even goes out of his way to NOT do any unecessary work.

My family has been dealing with the Pahl family since the 1940s. My grandmother always got her gasoline from him from the time George opened his station in the 1940s. Back in 2003, I brought my car in for a head gasket which was diagnosed by Jay Pahl. He indicated that he had no time to do it in the near future so I brought my car to the Quiet Zone in Terryville and got severely screwed. I saved up exactly the needed amount to have the head gasket changed and nothing else. I called the people at the Quiet Zone two days later to see how the work was coming along only to find out that they did over $800.00 worth of work which I never authorized and never touched the head gasket. Jay Pahl, who initially indicated that the car needed a head gasket, refused to write out a letter stating that he had looked at the car and what his diagnosis was and so I was left to my own defenses when I went to court.

Even though my family was loyal to his family's business, he couldn't be bothered helping one of his long time customers. Later, on May the 11th, 2015, I called, against my better judgment (I was recommended to him by another mechanic in town) to have my air conditioner looked at in my 1995 Cadillac DeVille. Jay indicated that he wasn't interested in doing work on a 1995 Cadillac even though I have seen Cadillacs of that year on his lot of used cars.

He then told me to go to someone who I could trust --- meaning (I took it) that I could not trust him. Jay's father was an honest man. I would not say the same about Jay. I don't recommend anyone going to this place of business anymore as you will undoubtedly come to the same conclusion.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE. I realize that the car I bought was just $2500 (kbb price for private party was $2,400 at the time), and when you buy the car, they basically say that they never want to see you again. I'm pretty sure I signed something saying that it's as is so buzz off if anything happens. Anyway, the point is, they said they would do a safety check and oil change and have me in the car next day. It took until the end of an extra day for them to give me the keys. Later, I found out that the safety inspection was either done terribly or not at all. A month after buying the car I realized that one of the rear struts was literally broken. and the broken edges were rusty, so I know for a fact it was from before I owned it. Since last year, I have put $3000 into the car. Fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, gas tank, idle air system, ABS problems, ignition problems, rear defroster has never worked, terrible alignment, there was a nail in my tire the next day after buying it(maybe my fault, not sure) car stalls often even with all of this work done. I really wish that I didn't buy this car. IF YOU DO DECIDE TO BUY FROM HERE REGARDLESS OF READING THIS, BE ABSOLUTELY SURE TO HAVE A MECHANIC CHECK OUT THE CAR.
