Pleasant View grew out of a concern many families in the Virginia Mennonite Conference had in the late 1960's-what would happen to their family member with an intellectual disability if they were no longer to care for him/her? The doors to our first home, now known as Turner House, opened in March 1971. Throughout the intervening years, Pleasant View has grown from a six-person group home to a multidimensional agency that serves over 160 people through a variety of services and supports. Although many come from all areas of Virginia and beyond, the majority are from the Harrisonburg/Rockingham community. Many religious backgrounds are represented including Mennonite, Brethren, Presbyterian, Jewish, Catholic, and United Church of Christ.
