The TASC-New York City is an alternative-to-incarceration program for nonviolent offenders in jails and prisons. The program accepts misdemeanor and predicate and nonpredicate felony offenders. It also works with offenders charged in the criminal court with issues concerning domestic violence. In operation since 1978, the TASC-New York City determines appropriate treatment and referral options. The program identifies potential participants by referral from the court and a defense attorney. It generates regular reports that outline individual s progress. In addition, the TASC-New York City develops and presents treatment plans in the court for approval. The program is funded through the New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives and the New York City Council. It is administered the Education & Assistance Corporation, which is a nonprofit agency.
