Scotto's Wine Cellar
318 Court St, Brooklyn, NY 11231
Scotto's Wine Cellar was originally opened prior to prohibition on Hicks Street in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. Like everyone else, we were closed during prohibition and in February 1934 we were once again open in our current location 318 Court Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231. In our early days we only sold wine. Our customers would come in with clay jugs that had our name imprinted; and we would fill the jugs from our barrels in the store.
After WW II, as a result of licensing changes, we were allowed to sell spirits in addition to wine. The store was owned by the Scotto family with Leo Scotto at the helm. In 1989, when Leo decided to lessen his work schedule and ultimately retire, I (James Benedetto) bought the store. My primary focus is on the ever changing wine market. The store has quite a long history of serving the community. Actually, we are one of, if not the oldest, wine shops in NY State.
