Nelson Electric was formed in 1963 in Minneapolis. It was founded by Paul Nelson, the father of the current owner, Robert Nelson. Robert was raised in the electrical business his father created and in 1977 started working for his father. In 1989 he took over the business with his sisters. Since that time he has been working hard to grow and diversify the company to better fit the needs of our clients.

DO NOT USE RANDYS ELECTRIC OUT OF MAPLE GROVE MN!!

We had RANDY'S ELECTRIC OUT OF MAPLE GROVE MN come out and perform some basic electrical work. Randy charged us $350 per hour to hang a couple of lights and install a couple outlets. We were floored at the cost but ended up having to pay him. I thought our case was unique so I did some digging on various review sites and found out Randy's billing structure is highly suspect. He doesn't charge by the hour he charges by item and it always works out to Randy's advantage. Below are actual comments taken from actual Randys customers. So go with anyone BUT NOT RANDYS ELECTRIC OUT MAPLE GROVE MNDescription Of Work:All they did is move an electrical box!. It took them only about 30 minutes to do the work, which is a simple electrical task. Their hourly rate would be around $500/hour!!!The charge was exhorbinate.Description Of Work:I had a floodlight installed on my garage. I was charged $300 for 10 minutes worth of work. The flood light sagged. After I inspected it further the screw had be stripped and I had to correct the problem myself. They didn't waterproof around the junction box that was installed so I also have to do that myself so that when it rains my garage doesn't burn down.Member Comments:$255 invoice for 20 minutes of work and a $5 breaker.Electrician, then hands out religious scripture upon completion of job?WHAT GALL !!!Member Comments:Which means I paid $206 in labor for 20 minutes of work, which works out to $618 PER HOUR. If I were Randy, I wouldn't want to break my prices down into parts and labor either, because the implied labor rate is absurd. It wasn't a total loss - at least I have eliminated Randy's Electric from any future work on my home.Member Comments:I'm new to the twin cities so I don't know if this is standard but Randy's does not charge by the hour. It's by the item. In our case moving the kitchen exhaust fan cost $357, add to that a $49 service charge, a $7.75 fuel charge for a grand total of $213.75. That's right, $213.75 was what it cost for a small uncomplicated job that took about 1 hour.Member Comments:Unfortunately, the quote was crazy overpriced. $1100 for the job. WOW. There was also a $49 service fee, which was never disclosed when I scheduled. I couldn't afford the work. They snatched up my $69 and I ended up with wasted hours of picking up lighting/waiting at home. Member Comments:The company charged us $254.75 to change a light bulb!!!!!Member Comments:The technician arrived on time and then proceeded to show me some laminated sheet with his charges to do this work...it said one thing like $239 to install an outlet.Member Comments:When he was leaving he explained they were a Christian company and gave me a religious tract. Here is the problem - after he left I looked up the light fixture he provided and it retailed for under $30 and I was charged $239 for it. My fault for not checking right away, but an 800% markup is not acceptable business practice.Description Of Work:Replaced two exterior lighting fixtures.Member Comments:It wound up costing about $600 more, which I thought was too high. I think if I'd done 3 separate visits, it could have cost that much, but it was all in 1 trip which I felt was over priced. I also didn't like how much proselytizing they did.Member Comments:Less then one hour later and $456 lighter in the wallet he was done. The price to do this work was over the top.http://local.yahoo.com/i…I also had a bad experience. I was quoted a price for a simple hour and a half project at $449. I called another electrician and he did it for $85 total. What a ripe-off these guys were.Do not use. Four times as expensive as a regular electrician. He charged $160 to change one outlet (10 minutes of work). Don't fall for $49 to come out. They know once you have paid that, they got you. It doesn't go towards final price as was told...
