The Brownsville Public Utilities serves more than 50,000 customers in the Brownsville, Texas, area, most of which are residences and commercial businesses. At the Brownsville Public Utilities, its two water treatment plants have the capacity to provide 40 million gallons of treated water per day, which is well above the city's peak demand, and serve a population of 150,000. Brownsville Public Utilities has given back to the community by sponsoring various charities and nonprofit organizations, and giving millions of dollars of in-kind contributions. It provides funds for the city of Brownsville in utility services and cash transfers, thereby allowing Brownsville residents to benefit two-fold.
