Discovery Elementary School, located in Buffalo, Minn., provides learning opportunities to students in grades kindergarten through five. Established in 1997, the school has an enrollment of more than 200 students. The school was awarded with the Ernest L. Boyer Best Practices Award for its parent and community involvement programs. The school has an active advisory team that comprises teachers, parents and community members. The team maintains the vision of family and community involvement, and advises and makes recommendations regarding the operation of school. It offers various extracurricular activities, such as orchestra, student representatives, choir, band, and scrabble and math clubs. It also offers enrichment classes in areas, such as community, crafts, music, recreation and technology. The school s parent involvement committee organizes and sponsors activities for families, including a back-to-school entrance conference, book fairs, read-a-thons, homeroom readers, art adventure, an all-school field trip, an end of the year celebration and an annual community family fun night. Discovery Elementary School is a part of the Buffalo Hanover Montrose School District.
