The Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers was founded in 1981 after the merger of Westminster Community House and the Neighborhood House Association. It is a nonprofit agency that offers services to economically disadvantaged individuals and people with serious and persistent mental illnesses in western New York. The agency helps to prepare, equip and empower individuals to address life management issues and to improve their quality of life. The Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers employs a work force of more than 190 full- and part-time staff members at over five office and program sites. Located in Buffalo, N.Y., its programs assist nearly 11,400 people of various ages and needs each year. The agency receives its funds from government grants, Medicaid income and fees for services. The Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers utilizes public and private donations from the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County to fund after-school programs, summer day cams and the Moot Senior Center.
