The Erie County Department of Senior Services offers programs to promote the wellbeing of older adults. Founded in 1971, it provides in-home respite care that includes assistance with housekeeping chores, bathing, grooming, dressing and medication management. The department s health programs include outpatient health and rehabilitative services, such as nursing and physical, occupational and speech therapies. Its mental health programs include services such as psychotherapy, daily living skills training, employment assistance and monitoring of psychotropic medication. The Erie County Department of Senior Services also provides programs for people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. The department's Wise & Well program offers information about various aspects of healthy living. It is located in Buffalo, N.Y.
