KPWR is a radio station licensed to Los Angeles with a rhythmic contemporary hit radio musical format. It is owned by Emmis Communications. In 2005, it also began broadcasting in IBOC digital radio, using the high-definition radio system from iBiquity. KPWR began broadcasting in 1986. In its first seven years, the station s playlist concentrated on an upbeat party-styled mix of dance music, house and urban pop product. KPWR s core listening audience is usually geared toward youth, young females and a heavily bilingual Hispanic listener. Its parent company, Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications, owns radio and television stations in the United States and Europe.
