I have patronized Burgaw Milling since 2006 and perhaps earlier. We moved to Wilmington in 2010 and I continued to travel the miles there because they have been very helpful and knowledgeable over the years. But.....one day I travelled from Wilmington and stopped by Burgaw Milling simply to buy some oyster shell for my chickens. I had given my last dollar of cash to my wife and had only my credit card on me. When it came time to pay for the shells I produced my credit card and the lady/owner announced very loudly, "It costs us to use credit cards and you should use cash only for this purchase", and she continued, very loudly and irritated, for several minutes in the store with an audience of several customers listening. For one time in my life I didn't have cash on me for heaven sake! And I brought my business all the way from Wilmington passing several Feed Stores on the way to do business with Burgaw Milling! I felt like crawling UNDER the EXIT door! II will NEVER go there again. I now go to Tractor Supply in Rocky Point. They appreciate my business and don't sweat the small stuff. I don't get publicly flogged there. I've always tried my best to patronize Independent Business but I didn't deserve to be treated that way over $3.50 worth of Oyster Shells when I've bought ALL my feeds and needs and seeds there.
