Provided by YP.comOh, Ohh...YUM...Words fail me.
First of all, I walk in, all intimidated, since I don't speak a speck 'O Spanish. There's this hunky, handsome guy with the most melting, chocolate brown eyes and sweet smile at the counter. I'm sketching over the photo menu, miserably worried since he's put his phone call on hold to patiently wait for me. I flash him the sorry, he flashes me the encouraging. Now, this is important to the story, or I wouldn't include it, but my parents raised beef cattle. So I know probably more than anyone should about all the many parts of an animal (and oh, the amount of liver on one cow, it's obscene!) While not yet adventurous enough to try a few of the listed items, I settled on the pollo and one Lengua taco. Start small, ya know, and "Lengua" is a tender, flavorful childhood favorite seldom enjoyed since. Go ahead and Ewww, you guys, don't knock it. WELL. I go outside with my book, seat myself comfy at a small, umbrella'd table next to the whiz and fume of Ambaum. Couple minutes later, Dreamboat arrives and slips me the tongue...oh, people. Rich, sweet, tender and capably spiced, flavorful meat on small, irregular, Ho'made tasting corn tortillas...Truly, words are failing me. The pollo...well, that was my safety net, and it was good but exactly what you would expect. BUT!! THE!! SAUCES!!! Ok, here's another spot where I show my ignorance. My favorite - the sauce I'm going to taste in my dreams - I don't know what it's called or what it is, but it tastes like, it tastes like, jeez this is embarrassing...it tastes like you took guacamole and hummus, whirled it in a blender and added some HELLA HELLA devious, sneaky, wicked spice. In the best possible way. You taste it immediately, but then, after 2 minutes, it REALLY sneaks up on you and POW! My tongue...or is it my tongues? ;) my tastebuds were all aflutter, sparks shooting up my sinuses, my throat felt like if I opened my mouth and sang, I would be channeling Janis Joplin. (I didn't try it, though). Now, ordinarily, I'm not accustomed to FEELING my esophagus. But it was right there, channeling fire into my happy belly. If this sounds painful, it WASN'T. I didn't even care that people were staring at me copiously blowing my nose. I'm going back...When I brought my empty plate back, I nearly kissed him...so I think he knows I'll trustingly chomp whatever he serves me. It's the food. Although he IS handsome. This is my new favorite place. I'll be happily burping the rest of the afternoon. I can't stop smiling.
