Friendly Ice Cream Corporation, more commonly know as Friendly s, is a vertically integrated restaurant company that serves signature sandwiches, entrees and ice cream desserts in a friendly, family environment. Friendly's has over 500 company and franchised restaurants throughout the Northeast. The company also manufactures ice cream, which is distributed through more than 4,500 supermarkets and other retail locations. With a nearly 70-year operating history, Friendly's enjoys strong brand recognition. The company is revitalizing its restaurants and introducing new products to grow its customer base. The first Friendly's ice cream shop was opened in 1935 during the Great Depression. The original store was opened in Springfield, Mass. The two young brothers who started the business named the store after wanting to convey a warm and caring way of taking care of customers. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served from a made-to-order-menu. The company s headquarters is in Wilbraham, Mass. The Burke, Va., Friendly's is among many franchised or company-owned restaurants.
