The Elder family established ELDER Hosiery Mills in 1919 as a greige goods knitting mill. During the past 30 years, the company has developed the capacity and reputation as a manufacturer of heavyweight thermal socks. It has been instrumental in developing several thermal styles in conjunction with the Army Research Department for military use that have passed the department s rigorous testing and inspection procedures. ELDER has made socks for many national brands, such as BVD, Fruit of the Loom, Keds, Dickies, Esquire, Wells Lamont, Field and Stream, Burlington, Jeffries, Legale and Street Slouch. With its background and experience with woolen yarns and man made fibers, the company also introduced ELDER socks for the outdoor enthusiast. It incorporates some of the best fibers and technology available for cold weather comfort. ELDER Hosiery Mills is located in Burlington, N.C.
