Dr. Kate Ostrander, MD, FAAP is a Pediatrician and Palliative and Hospice Medicine Physician serving as Associate Director of the Pediatric Advanced Care Team at the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital. She also sees patients with the Adult Palliative Medicine Service with the Department of Family Medicine.  She is grateful to help people of all ages live well with serious illness alongside their families and their interdisciplinary teams. She hopes to do this by navigating complex decisions while honoring individual goals and values and managing symptoms to promote quality of life.   Dr. Ostrander received her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences and Public Health from Northeastern University and her medical degree with research honors from Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Vermont, where she also worked as a pediatric hospitalist, prior to completing her Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital.  In addition to the care Dr. Ostrander provides her patients, she serves as an assistant professor of pediatrics for UVM's Larner College of Medicine. Her academic interests include teaching interprofessional communication skills for serious illness, developing systems and methods for medical team debriefing and bereavement, physician and trainee reflective practice, and community engagement in pediatric training.  You can view Dr. Ostrander’s recent awards and publications by visiting her Larner College of Medicine academic profile.
